Success in Goals
With the loss of jobs, this is an opportune time to think about new goals/career aspirations. Career means all of life. Do you feel trapped? What have you always thought about doing? Does it seem so far away? Are you too old now, not enough education, do you not look the part? What is holding you back?
In a series of tapes by Lou Tice, from ‘The Pacific Institute’, he says that we determine what we can do from our past environment and if we continue to see those limitations, we will always be held back from reaching our goals. I am paraphrasing that, of course, but it is my interpretation of the essence of what his work is saying. www.thepacificinstitute.com
What he says we should do is to learn to visualize ourselves in our goals now. Everything starts with an idea, so start thinking about what we want now. In present tense. What does it feel like? Does it bring you joy? Is it fulfilling?
How do we do this? Through affirmations, we look at our lives and affirm what we want to see happening - as presently happening. I remember being introduced to Lou's work through a video at Tri-County Technical College in the late eighties. He (on the video) was talking to a group of people about how they think and its effect. I shared the video in the workshops I taught, to encourage people to see that how they think affects the life experience.
Later on, I kept thinking about the video and wanted to learn more about it. At a human resources conference for South Carolina, a man gave a talk about Lou Tice’s work and how to obtain it. I made several calls about this as I wanted to use his work in the Welfare to Work Program I was setting up. Could not see how we could afford it – but kept trying to find a way. I kept thinking about this, and visualizing this in the workshops, and I could not let it go.
Once when we were planning a dinner and I wanted to have food donated, I met a man from Publix and he came to meet with us. As it turned out, he and several other managers had been through The Pacific Institute training. He made me some cassette tapes to listen to myself. This intensified my interest in obtaining them.
Later on, as I continued to work with him on this, opportunities came available to have a business owner from NC come and do workshops for us. I had met her at a convention and she agreed to help. She obtained permission to do so; she did so, and we obtained what was needed for the sessions. I had felt the people needed this vision in the Welfare to Work sessions.
We lined up a few people to come to the sessions. One of the young women called me a home on Sunday before the first session and said she would not be able to come. Said her husband had run her and the children off with a gun and she was staying with someone. They had no place to live, no transportation, no more clothes and she just would not be able to come. I assured her we would come get her, take her to the sessions, and find a way for her to get a place to live, etc. She agreed.
At the sessions, we did affirmations and discovered this new way of thinking. By the end of the week, we had located an apartment complex, furniture, and clothes for all of them. In a couple of weeks she had a vehicle for transportation. Seems miraculous? Well, it just so happened!
So, we need to learn to affirm to ourselves daily what it is we want to see happen and do it in present tense. We learn to set goals on abundance basis rather than on lack. Read The Abundance Book, by John Randolph Price.
We start seeing ourselves as having what we want and feeling good about it; enjoying life, and being satisfied and fulfilled. It is true. This is not new. It is transforming. We find no one else to blame and many blessings as we progress in our understanding of this principle. We embrace change and learn to think our way into success!
